2 Day Walk:

When does the 2-day Scenic Rim Trail depart?

The 2 Day walk departs once a week at 8.30am on a Friday morning. Departures on different days are possible for exclusive use groups if you have a group & would like a different departure date please contact us to discuss.

How long in advance do I need to book?

We encourage guests to book the Scenic Rim Trail at least 7 days in advance. However, if it is less than 7 days please call us and we will try and accommodate you.

What level of fitness do I need to participate?

The Scenic Rim Trail is graded moderate to hard and is designed for people with a good level of fitness who have had previous hiking experience. Day 1 is graded moderate (grade 3). Day 2 is graded hard (level 4). Read more on the Australia wide walking classification guide. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

What do I need to bring?

  • Appropriate walking clothes- breathable tops, light jumper, rain jacket, hiking boots or waterproof trail shoes & long pants (we suggest long pants over shorts to prevent scratches and insect bites)
  • Casual clothing to wear at Spicers Canopy during winter please bring warm clothes – beanie, jacket, jumper long pajamas, bed socks
  • Personal medication our guides carry first aid kits, however please bring along any personal medication you might need
  • Hiking boots or waterproof trail shoes (please see below ‘what style of boots do I need’ for more information). We recommend walking shoes over standard runners/trainers as they are generally waterproof & have good support.
  • Light waterproof rain jacket should encounter some wet weather whilst out on the trail (we don’t provide rain jackets)
  • Wide-brimmed hat & sunglasses
  • Swimmers for the hot tub at Spicers Canopy

What do Spicers supply?

  • All meals & beverages – breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea & dinner
  • Appelles shampoo, conditioner, bodywash & moisturiser
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottles
  • Day pack 24l or 32l
  • Hiking poles
  • Gaiters as seen below are used to protect the lower leg (optional)

What do I carry?

The only equipment you will carry is your day pack and the essentials you need for the walk that day.

Items might include; a camera, jumper, rain jacket any personal medications, a hat in addition to your water bottles and your pre-prepared lunch made by Spicers.

Your guides will also carry tea and coffee.

What style of boots do I need?

It is essential to have good quality, lace up hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support.

They should preferably be waterproof and have a tread sole. Boots must be worn-in to minimise the risk of blisters.

Some guests do choose to walk in runners/trainers and are comfortable to do so. We don’t have a drying room however so if your shoes do get wet getting them dry by the next morning will be unlikely.

What is the accommodation like?

You can expect beautiful, custom built eco-accommodation. You will spend your nights at the unique Spicers Canopy Luxury Tents, an Advanced Eco-Tourism Accredited site with 10 safari-style tents with fine linens and Bemboka blankets, exclusively used only by your group while you are on the hike.

Each tent can be set with King or Twin bedding and are topped with warm duvet & blankets. All tents have power so you can plug in your devices to recharge overnight.

Shared bathrooms are located at the main lodge with 4 x toilets & 3 x showers available. Appelles amenities are provided as are all towels and our signature Spicers robe.

How many guests will be on the walk?

The 2 Day walk allows a minimum of 4 guests and a maximum of 14 guests ensuring you always have a small group.

How many guides?

The number of guides will depend on the group size. 1-5 guests will have 1 guide, 6+ guests will have 2 guides accompanying them.

Do we hike in wet weather conditions?

Yes! We enjoy the elements and wet weather gives us a completely different & fresh view of our surroundings. Bringing a rain jacket is highly recommended to ensure a comfortable experience. If storms with lightening is predicted please be advised that the days walk may be cancelled or altered.

Is there an age limit?

We do have an age limit of 15 years and over. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We have dedicated family departures during school holidays, please contact us if this is of interest.

Where can I stay pre & post walk?

Spicers Balfour Hotel in Brisbane is the perfect place to start or end your walk. Transfers can be arranged to or from the hotel to the walk (charges apply). Breakfast is provided in the restaurant at 6.30am before you transfer to the walk at 7am.

Spicers Peak Lodge is located just 20 minutes from Spicers Canopy where you’ll be staying for your walk. Many guests choose to add a luxury all-inclusive stay at Peak Lodge before and/or after the walk. The day spa is a welcomed respite after a 2-day hike.

Where is the meeting point if I elect to self-drive?

The meeting point is located on our private property, 7791 Cunningham Highway, Clumber 4309, approximately 1 hour 20 minutes from Brisbane CBD. Please arrive at 8:30am on the morning of your departure.

For a more accurate pinpoint of our driveway entrance and our meeting point please use the following coordinates:

Entrance to the driveway: 28°01’55.7″S 152°28’07.2″E (this will be accurate when copied into Google Maps)
Meeting Point: 28°02’10.3″S 152°28’18.4″E (this will be accurate when copied into Google)

Please note: If you are driving from the East (Brisbane/ Gold Coast) you will see our Scenic Rim Trail sign at the entrance to our driveway on the left-hand-side of the Cunningham Highway. You will NOT drive through Cunningham’s Gap to get to our meeting point if you are travelling from the East. Once you pass through Aratula we are located about 10 minutes further along the Cunningham Highway.

If you are driving from the West (Toowoomba/ Warwick) the sign will be on the right-hand-side of the Cunningham Highway. If you are travelling from the West we are located about 10 minutes after you pass through Cunningham’s Gap.

The driveway is about 1km long, please follow the Scenic Rim Trail directional signs all the way to the top of the hill, this is where your guide will be waiting for you.

What are the booking terms and conditions?

Cancellations or date changes within 45 & 31 days of arrival will incur a 50% fee; within 30 days will incur a 100% fee. At the time of reservation, a 50% deposit is required to secure your booking. Final payment is due 30 days prior to arrival.

Travel Insurance & booking conditions:

There is a minimum of 4 guests required for the walk to depart. We will advise you a minimum of four weeks prior to departure if the walk has not met minimum numbers to discuss alternate options.

In the circumstance of the booking being cancelled, the following terms and conditions will apply: Between 45 and 31 days (inclusive) prior to the arrival date of this booking, a cancellation fee of 50% will apply. Less than 30 days (inclusive) prior to the arrival date of this booking, any cancellations or changes to the booking, will incur a cancellation fee equal to 100% of the total rate for the booking. Please note – A date change to the booking has the same effect as a cancellation, as of 30 days from day of arrival. Any no shows or early departures will also be charged for.

It is recommended that you take out Travel Insurance prior to your arrival on the Scenic Rim Trail. Please make yourself familiar with these terms and conditions along with any other relevant travel costs associated with your trip. Spicers recommend using Covermore for travel insurance.

Can a transfer be organised from Brisbane?

Yes, we can organise a transfer for you from Spicers Balfour Hotel New Farm Brisbane from $150 per person or from Brisbane Airport with a price to be provided upon request.
