You’ll start your journey with a 20min vehicle transfer to the start of the walk. Today we ascend Mt Mathieson through World Heritage Listed Rainforest within the Main Range National Park, tracing the historic steps of early settlers.
The first half of the day offers a steady climb with a 400m ascent. The trail offers sweeping views of the Great Dividing Range, which are stunning. We meander through a section of rainforest before making our way through a field that during late spring is covered in wildflowers.
As we emerge from the forest we encounter historic Spicers Gap Road, learning about the European history of this area as we follow the now farm road down to Spicers Nature Refuge.
Enjoying some quiet time on the trail allows you to tune into the natural world around you leaving the outside world behind if not just for a few days.
The last section of the day follows a creek line that is cool & peaceful before a final stretch crossing through Spicer farmlands into Spicers Canopy where your host will be awaiting your arrival at approximately 3.30pm.
You will be staying at Spicers Canopy Eco Camp for the duration of your stay with glamping style tented accommodation. The main lodge is your home away from home where you can help yourself to a beverage, relax by the fire or on the deck enjoying the views of the mountains.
The hot tub is the perfect place for a sunset dip before your daily briefing in the lounge followed by a share style dinner prepared by your host / chef.
0700 – 0730 a share style breakfast is served in the lodge with tea & coffee available from 6.30am. Refill your water bottles, collect your lunch and you’ll walk out of camp at approx. 8am (during the warmer months breakfast/walk-out will be earlier).

Today you’ll explore Spicers private Nature Refuge and a remote section of the Main Range National Park, where very few public walkers get the chance to venture.
Returning to the beautiful creek line we enjoy the morning birdsong and golden light trickling through the trees. Once we depart the creek we start our climb ascending along the ridgeline & up to our lunch spot, which offers magnificent views of the valley below.
We keep our eyes peeled for the endangered Glossy Black Cockatoo, which occasionally frequent this part of the property. Likewise koalas are known to be relaxing in the eucalypts above us.
Returning to camp at approx. 3.30pm you’ll have the rest of the afternoon at your leisure before enjoying sunset drinks & a cheese platter by the fire. Dinner will follow soon after with tales of the day being shared around the table.
0730 breakfast in the main lodge before following our morning routine of getting prepared for the day & departing at approx. 0900.
Distance | 5km
Difficulty | easy to moderate
Today offers a more leisurely walk with only 5km. We explore Miller Vale Creek a beautiful gorge like walk with enveloping rock walls and still billabongs. This creek is home to some very elusive platypus, it’s hard to see one but they are there.
We have morning tea on trail with lunch enjoyed back at camp.
This afternoon is an optional venture up to Spicers Peak Lodge for afternoon tea. Your guide will drive you up (approx. 30 min) where you will enjoy a glass of bubbles, a tour of the lodge & some afternoon tea before returning to Spicers Canopy in the late afternoon.
Sunset drinks will once again be enjoyed in the lodge or at the outside fire pit (so long as there is no fire ban in place) before a relaxing dinner in the lodge.
Enjoy a slow start to the morning with an 8am breakfast. At 10am we will transfer you back to Clumber where we will wish you a very fond farewell & wonderful memories to take with you.
While you are in the region it’s a good opportunity to explore some of the local establishments including SummerLand Camels, Karoomba Lavender Farm & Restaurant or the Overflow Estate just to name a few.
