Transfers and/or Parking

Transfers – can be arranged from Spicers Balfour Hotel in New Farm Brisbane or private transfers can be arranged from Brisbane airport. Transfers are an additional cost, please ask at time of booking.

Self drive – parking is available at Spicers Hidden Vale or at our Scenic Rim Trail meeting point in Clumber. Please note that undercover parking is not available and if this is a concern we can arrange transfers for you.

If you have chosen to add on a stay at Spicers Peak Lodge arrangements will be made with you regarding transfers and transportation to ensure a seamless experience.

Luggage & bags

Please provide your own water resistent duffel style bag with a weight limit of 12kg. As your luggage is transported from camp to camp it may get dusty or slightly wet if it is raining so we recommend a suitable bag such as a Carribee 65l Duffel.

If you have onward travel plans and need to bring more luggage please let us know in advance so we are able to plan accordingly. If you are getting a heli transfer the weight limit is strictly 12kg so please weigh your bag at home.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call us on 13 77 42.

Detailed packing list

We have compiled the following detailed packing list to guide you in your packing, click here to download.

We are walking & staying in remote locations with no access to shops so you will need to pack a personal medical kit and any other items you may wish to have access to during your trip.

Fitness level & training tips

To embark on a multi-day hike you are already likely a keen bush walking or exercise enthusiast. However if you would like to train for your hike here are a few tips. Hiking is more than walking in the bush it requires strength, balance, fitness & the appropriate gear.

If you are wanting to build your fitness and challenge yourself with a multi-day hike we recommend you follow a training program to ensure you are ready. We recommend starting your training at least 3 months prior.

  • Schedule as many bush walks as your calendar will allow
  • Bike riding and swimming are also great at building strength and aerobic fitness
  • Work on your strength and stability

The Scenic Rim Trail is a moderate to difficult walk with uphill climbs and Grade 5 sections meaning that there is no worn path and you’ll need to be able to navigate uneven surfaces and rocky sections where you will need to use your hands to go up or down. A high level of strength and fitness is required.

What is the terrain like?

You can expect dedicated trails for the entire duration of the walk. Rocks, roots & obstacles are present so a level of agility is required. We are required to go over & under a tree log in one section and a 4m steel rock ladder is used to go up a rock face. There are 4 steep sections the most challenging being on day one as we ascend up to Mt Mistake.

The grading system assesses a walk’s difficulty based on several criteria, including: experience required, steps, gradient, path quality and signage. The Scenic Rim Trail follows Grade 3 – Grade 5 walking trails. Your guides are highly trained with the skills required to lead you on through the variety of terrain.

Grade 3: Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may have short steep hill sections a rough surface and many steps.

Grade 4: Bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may be long, rough and very steep.

Grade 5: Very experienced bushwalkers with specialised skills, including navigation and emergency first aid. Tracks are likely to be very rough, very steep and unmarked.

Do you cater to dietary requirements?

Yes we certainly do. Please make sure you let us know at least 7 days prior to your departure.

Do I need hiking shoes?

Yes – hiking shoes are required for this walk. You want the best hiking boots for men to protect you from the elements and provide the perfect amount of support with each step. Merrell is a well known brand & it is recommended you get a pair fitted to your feet. Be sure to wear your shoes in prior to going on the walk to avoid blisters.

Do I have to walk every day?

On your trip you will have 6 days of walking with the first day being an arrival day. As the Scenic Rim Trail is a continuous experience for the first 5 nights you do need to walk each day to reach your destination.

Emergency evacuation are planned for however only initiated in an emergency situation rather than by choice.
