One

  • No walking today
  • 1pm arrival

Just 1hr from Brisbane lies Spicers Hidden Vale Retreat a historic 12,000 acre property renowned for its mountain biking trails, luxury experience and conservation activity.

Arrive for a 1pm meet and greet over lunch at award winning Homage Restaurant before joining researchers on their daily koala tracking and a tour of the $5 million purpose built Wildlife Centre.

Tonight you will be staying at Spicers Hidden Vale Retreat in a Valley View Room. You have the option to join the afternoon market garden tour led by one of the talented chefs followed by dinner at the hatted Homage restaurant.

 

Two

  • 7.5km Grade - Hard
  • 4 - 5 hours

After breakfast you will meet your guides and be transferred to the start of the walk. An exciting day lies ahead as you ascend the Mistake Mountain Range where sweeping valley views and wildlife spotting is on the agenda.

Learning about bush fire ecology as you see first hand how the eucalypt forest has coped with recent bush fires. The first day of walking includes a steady climb, rewarding views for motivation and a rock ladder as a feature.

Arriving for afternoon tea you will have time to relax afterwards or join your guides for a waterfall walk. Tonight you will stay at Spicers Mt Mistake located on a remote escarpment adjacent to the Main Range National Park.

Three

  • 8 hours Grade - Easy

Sunrise from Mt Mistake is a must. Crossing over into the Main Range National Park you feel the forest close in around you. You will start to see glimpses of World Heritage Listed Gondwana Rainforest giving you a taste of what’s to come.

Today is a longer day in distance however walk is relatively flat and easy. As your guides lead you through this incredible environment you’ll be on the lookout for a range of flora and fauna endemic to the area.

We will enjoy morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea on the trail before arriving into Spicers Amphitheatre Eco Cabins at around 4pm. Enjoy sunset from the viewing deck and watch the rock face across the gully change colours with the setting sun.

Designed with sustainability in mind Spicers Amphitheatre Eco Cabins, located in the National Park is an architectural masterpiece. Nestled into the environment on formerly cleared Timber Getting land, each of the seven stand alone cabins are connected by walk ways with two communal wash pavilions and a main lodge.

Enjoy some time in your tree house like cabin before dinner is served at 6pm. Settle by the gas fire place with a port or dessert wine before retiring to your cabin.

Four

  • 8.7km Grade - Moderate with steps
  • 8 hours

Venturing deep into Gondwana rainforest with an exciting day ahead. You will learn about the subtropical rainforest that surrounds you and walk through areas that very few bush walkers venture.

Your day will be spent under canopy with giant trees towering above, twisting vines and the sounds of birds calling. We descend to the valley floor where we need to get low and go slow enjoying afternoon tea at spring fed Dalrymple Creek.

The vibrancy of the rainforest and the diverse terrain sees us travelling less distance but at a slower pace. We will arrive into Spicers Timber Getters Eco Cabins at around 4pm.

A former logging outpost with a relic hut still present. Each eco cabin is nestled into the hillside with beautiful forest views fully immersing you into nature. Once again there are seven stand alone cabins, two wash pavilions and a main lodge.

Five

  • 13km
  • 8hrs Grade - Moderate with some steps

Departing camp after breakfast we venture towards the edge of the remnant volcano with afternoon tea enjoyed 1186m above sea level on Bare Rock. From this vantage point you’ll be able to trace your journey back over the mountain range and feel a great sense of achievement.

Experience walking on a ridge line with a vast valley below and towering Mt Cordeaux shading you from above. We’ll stop to smell the native mint before descending down through one last section of rainforest. You’ll see evidence of the pioneering past with gold mining attempts in the most precarious of places.

We’ll be met at Cunningham Gap and transferred to Spicers Hidden Peaks Cabins where your handmade timber slab hut with ensuite awaits. A celebration dinner will be enjoyed this evening cooked by our private chef.

Six

  • 13km Grade - Moderate
  • 6 hours

After breakfast you will be transferred along with any new walkers to Cunningham Gap to resume your journey. Hand cut trails will take you to the top of Mount Mitchell where you will feel like you are on top of the world.

Guides will help you spot trap door spiders along the edge of the trail as you make your way back down crossing into the Spicers Peak Station Nature Refuge. Meandering through the creek bed that runs along the perimeter of the property you may be lucky enough to spot platypus, which have been sighted in the area.

Spicers Canopy Luxury Tents is your home for the next two nights. An Advanced Eco Tourism accredited site with private chef who will be preparing all your meals.

Seven

  • 15km Grade - difficult
  • 8 hours

Sunrise is a worthy treat at Spicers Canopy, set your alarm for first light and watch as the sun rolls over the mountain range casting a golden light on the fields around you.

After breakfast you will follow the creek path through open grass lands and towering forest don’t forget to look up for koalas. You’ll learn about the delicate balance of farming and conservation and how Spicers is managing to do both.

Afternoon tea will be enjoyed at the lodge or one of the view vantage points before being driven back to Spicers Canopy for your final evening.

On your final morning you will be transferred to Brisbane, Spicers Hidden Vale or Spicers Peak Lodge depending on your onward travel plans.
