No#5 | Elizabeth Bay House
10 min walk from Spicers Potts Point
7 Onslow Ave, Elizabeth Bay
Category: Living History
Stepping back in time and into the once private home of Alexander Macleay one of the most important public officials in Colonial Sydney. The build started in 1835 and once spanned 54 acres of manicured gardens overlooking the harbour. The house was built at enormous expense and the Greek style architecture is impressive. The main axis of the house aligns with the winter solstice. Luckily Elizabeth Bay House has been preserved as a Heritage icon and is open Friday – Sunday from 10am to 4pm, it’s well worth a visit.
