Get back to nature to help soothe your soul
March 13, 2020
‘Only walking manages to free us from our illusions about the essential’ – so writes Frederic Gros in his brilliant Philosophy of Walking (Publishers Verso, 2014).
It’s a manifesto simply about putting one foot in front of the other and why so many great philosophers through time have embraced the meditative, even transformative, act of walking, particularly walking in nature.
The concept fits well with our invitation to Holiday Here this Year. It’s a chance to escape the city pace and the daily grind and enjoy the restorative tranquillity of an unspoilt environment.
Walking, adventuring and the natural environment are part of Spicers Retreats core values and the group has developed a portfolio of properties purely focussed on getting people into the spectacular Australian bush. All, of course, with the backdrop of relaxed luxury that is synonymous with our brand.
Some will simply place you in nature and allow you to stay still, enjoy a stroll or hike to your heart’s desire. Others are designed for a more challenging adventure – looking at you seven-day Scenic Rim Trail. Here’s a taste of what we’re talking about.
Queensland’s ultimate glamping experience is only an hour and a half from Brisbane in Tregony, and set in a 5000-acre private refuge. There are just 10 luxury tents here and you’ll be far from the city limits with a range of walking trails at your door – and a hot tub! Did we mention all meals are provided, so all that is left for you to do is soak up some peace and some birdsong while gazing at the surrounding mountain range.
For adventurous souls, one of the best kept secrets in all of Queensland are Hideaway Cabins. This cluster of wood cabins rests in a secluded area of the 12,000 hectare property that is also home to Spicers Hidden Vale and the more than 100km of mountain biking trails that comprise Hidden Vale Adventure park. Bring your bike, or hire one of ours and spend your getaway exploring these extensive trails, designed for every level of rider. There’s an abundance of wildlife to be discovered here too and with four two-bedroom cabins and a large communal area, it is a unique option for private groups celebrating a milestone or simply looking for some downtime surrounded by nature.
Just six utterly charming Queensland blue gum cabins make up this off-grid haven on 250 acres of private bushland in Clumber, an hour and a half from Brisbane. The cabins, each with its own alluring veranda and an ensuite, are spread out around a central lodge which has a communal kitchen and dining area with a deck. But perhaps the biggest drawcard is the large circular firepit that makes a night under the stars here with friends and family so completely memorable. Holiday here this year for a unique, relaxed experience in the Australian bush.
The jewel in the crown of Spicers Retreat’s nature-based eco offerings is the newly unveiled Scenic Rim Trail, one of the Great Walks of Australia, and easily accessible from Brisbane.
Shorter two and three-night walks are available now but the much-anticipated 50km trail, walked over five days, will launch in April 2020. The project is one of the biggest ecotourism projects undertaken in Queensland.
The trail, the only Queensland inclusion in the Great Walks of Australia collection, leads through the ecologically rich and diverse Scenic Rim region with spectacular terrain, flora and fauna encountered at every turn.
The Spicers Retreats ‘relaxed luxury’ ethos is with you all the way – from the bespoke eco accommodation to chef-prepared meals and beverages included. Your luggage is portered every day.
The two-day walking season runs from March till November and is available now from $1490 per person twin share.
The new five-day trail from $3390 per person twin share will also allow for the option of a seven-day hike by linking the two.
So, whether you have a burning yen for some spirited adventure or a simple desire for some walking in nature, we’ve got you covered. Holiday here this year!
