Spicers Hidden Vale’s new Homestead

In April 2018 the ceiling of the nearly 100-year-old Homestead at Spicers Hidden Vale caught fire, sadly burning the building completely down. It marked almost 100 years ago to the day that another fire had burnt down the original farmhouse on the same site. The fire was devastating and impacted many people, but luckily no one was hurt and the comeback from that day has been extraordinary.

Proving that necessity truly is the mother of invention, the team pulled together and less than three months after the blaze, Spicers Hidden Vale was reopened and Homage, our Chef Hatted restaurant with Head Chef Ash Martin at the helm, was re-imagined in the historical on-site barn.

And so the rebuilding of our beautiful Homestead began. Completed in February 2020, the new Homestead pays homage to the history of its colourful past but incorporates modern luxurious finishings that Spicers Retreats are renowned for.

Below is a timelapse video of the complete resurrection of the Homestead.

One of the main features in the revamped design is the two-way central fireplace. This forms the heart of the Homestead where both new and returning visitors can gather around the fire to share a tale or two.

Another stunning feature is the vaulted ceilings, in which a trio of hand forged iron chandeliers suspend, illuminating the clerestory and bathe the main dining room below with a warm glow.
