Summer Skincare

Long hot days and humid nights can play havoc on your skin. Our lovely Spa Anise day spa Manager Lisa Tristram has kindly let us in on a few secrets on how to keep your skin glowing through the summer months.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Our skin needs hydration just as much as we do in the warmer weather, but it can be tough to wear heavier creams in the hot sun. Try using a beautiful light-weight serum with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid which helps to not only draw moisture into skin but hold it there, or vitamin B3 which is also super hydrating as well as soothing. At Spa Anise we use Waterlilly skin products and the Spaceuticals Phyto B3 Serum is a must have for your summer skincare routine.

Keep your cool if your skin is the type to flush or turn pink, than a cooling, soothing spritz of floral water can really help. Make sure it has no synthetic fragrance or other irritants. Also remember to choose something with anti-oxidant ingredients which help to free scavenge radicals that damage the skin when we are in the sun. These are things like vitamin C and sea minerals. The Waterlilly products I suggest for this are the Spaceuticals Hydra-C Mist or Waterlily Rose Mist.

Sun, sand, sea and sunscreen. All of these things can leave our skin dried out, clog our pores or leave skin looking dull or damaged. Protection is of course vital, but the next best thing is to keep our skin refreshed and prevent dehydration so we need to exfoliate regularly. Use natural ingredients such as sugar which slowly dissolves on the skin and will be gentle enough not to cause micro-tears. An oil-based scrub is also a great way to keep skin moisturised during the process. Waterlilly’s Spaceuticals Lime Caviar Sugar Smoother for the body and Waterlily Smoothing Crème for the face are great for renewing your summer glow.

Also remember to stack up on aloe vera. It comes to the rescue for a lot of skin problems. During summer especially, it turns into a soothing balm, cooling off your skin after a long day in the sun. Aloe vera calms the skin and nourishes it intensely. It also contains antioxidants that protect your skin from damage. Pluck fresh aloe vera and scoop the gel from the leaf to apply it to your skin.

A healthy diet is another way to ensure you maintain that summer glow. Include a complete mix of fruits, vegetables, nuts, cereals, and protein. A fine balance of all the nutrients that your body requires. Make sure you are getting enough calcium as well. The nuts I mentioned, are a great addition because they are excellent for your skin.
