Built into the roof space of our colonial Queenslander hotel, Spicers Balfour Bar is an intimate sanctuary where you can escape the city stress and relax as the sun sets. With a cool drink in hand, watch the lights turn on, painting bright colours onto the cityscape and the Story Bridge.
Our wine list received an honourable mention in the Small Bars Wine List Category in the Queensland Restaurant and Catering Wine List Awards. Created by talented sommelier Peter Marchant, our list is an exciting curation of spirits, beer, ciders, champagne, sparkling and still wines. While Peter sources our beverages from international and local producers (both well-known and boutique) we are unashamedly Australian-centric. We are proud to showcase wines from Australia’s most acclaimed wine regions including our own Queensland Granite Belt.
All drinks on the list are chosen to work perfectly with the style of food at Spicers Balfour, which is primarily French Vietnamese, but also draws inspiration from other Asian countries. You’ll find Hanoi and Asahi beers amongst our beer and ciders. Our wine selections with aromatic whites and light reds at the fore, include textured whites and richer reds, all chosen to balance, accentuate and compliment the flavours on the menu.
If you like to taste across the menu and share plates, you could also opt for small tastes from our wine list as well.
We serve 75ml, 125ml and 150ml glasses so you can sip and explore our sparkling, white, rose and red wine list. Because Peter Marchant does all the hard work of tasting and selecting the best quality wines for Balfour’s list you can be confident to be adventurous and try something different to your normal go-to wines. To add to our favourite cocktails, we are soon launching our new Rooftop Cocktail Bar List. We are taking our inspiration from the romantic French-influenced Vietnam and the fascinating era of 1920’s prohibition. Think the Jazz Age, Great Gatsby, Scott F Fitzgerald, Earnest Hemmingway; a time when many of the world’s most iconic cocktails were invented and enjoyed in hidden speakeasies.
